About Us

Hi, I'm Qasir Mehmood, the founder of Format PDF. Before building this, I spent years working as a freelance web developer, building websites and tools for clients across different industries. Format PDF grew directly out of that work. It wasn't a plan to start a PDF company, it was a fix for something I kept running into on the job.

Why Format PDF exists

The same problem kept showing up with clients. Someone needed to merge a couple of PDFs before a meeting, or convert a Word document so the formatting wouldn't fall apart when opened on a different computer, and the tools available to do that turned out to be more trouble than the task itself. Sign-ups just to download a file you'd already finished. Paywalls for something that should take thirty seconds. Software to install for a job you'd do once and never touch again.

Format PDF exists to cut that friction out. Upload a file, do the thing you came to do, download it, done. That's the standard I hold every tool on the site to, both as the developer who builds them and as the person who runs the service.

Who Format PDF is for

Most people who land on Format PDF aren't looking for a PDF platform. They're in the middle of something else and just need a specific task done quickly: a student converting an assignment, a freelancer merging invoices before sending them off, or someone signing a lease without printing it out. The site is built around that kind of one-off task, not around getting people to adopt a whole PDF workflow.

What Format PDF does

Format PDF runs entirely in the browser and covers a wide range of PDF tasks. A few of the ones people use most:

• Merging multiple PDFs into one file, useful before sending a document off or printing it
• Converting Word documents to PDF, so formatting holds up on whatever device opens it
• Editing text and images inside a PDF without rebuilding the whole file
• Compressing large PDF files that are too heavy to email
• Signing a PDF without printing, signing by hand, and scanning it back in

Nothing to install, and no account required to use any of them. It works the same on a laptop, a tablet, or a phone.

How we build and improve Format PDF

New tools get added when enough people actually ask for them, not because they'd round out a features list. When something breaks, we fix it. When a tool has too many steps or is confusing to use, we simplify it instead of leaving it and moving on to the next thing.

Maintaining what already exists gets as much attention as building new things. A tool that works reliably every time is worth more than five new ones that half-work. That was true in the early days when I was building this on my own, and it's still how decisions get made now that there's a team behind it.

Who's behind Format PDF

I don't run this alone. A small team of 3 people works with me on development, support, and keeping the service running as more people use it day to day. It's a working team, not a faceless company behind the site. If something's broken or off, we'd rather hear about it directly than have someone quietly give up and leave.

What we care about

• Simplicity. If a tool needs a tutorial to figure out, that's a sign it needs to be simplified, not explained better.
• Reasonable speed. Files should process without a long wait, even on a slower connection.
• Not hoarding your files. Uploaded files are removed from our servers shortly after processing rather than stored.
• Listening before building. Changes and new tools come from what users actually ask for, not from guessing what might be useful.
• Fixing what exists. We'd rather have fewer tools that work properly than a long list where half of them are neglected.

How we handle uploaded files

When you upload a file to Format PDF, it's used to complete the task you requested and nothing else. Files are deleted from our servers shortly after processing rather than kept in long-term storage. Our Privacy Policy covers exactly how this works, if you want the full details.
